Position Title: Intermediate Environment Designer

Perennial is looking for an intermediate level designer to join our environmental design team and work on a variety of retail design projects and initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• The incumbent will be responsible for many types of environmental design challenges, some of which may include:

o conceptual exploration

o hand and computer renderings

o design intent packages

o sourcing of equipment

o sample and finish selections

o working drawings

• This position may involve client interaction with senior level support. The individual will prepare for and/or make client presentations and through the ongoing course of the project, supply support to more senior members of the team in addition to the client.

• The candidate will be knowledgeable of current design trends and fully aware of the client’s business and the competitive challenges that they face. With solid problem solving abilities, the incumbent will provide creative solutions to the client’s unique business needs; which are in alignment with their overall business strategy.

 

Accountabilities

• You will report to the Creative Director, Environments, and will be managed on your overall design ability, your ability to give and take direction, and your interpersonal abilities both within and outside the studio.

• At times, you will be asked to represent your work, ensuring that not only are all the strategic objectives of the client met, but that also all of the standards and brand promise of Perennial are maintained within the work presented.

• Ongoing, and as each project is given, this individual will provide support to all facets of the job including;

o Demonstrate understanding of strategic and specific client needs and objectives

o Adjust and adapt to any changes throughout the process and flag any potential problems throughout

o Keep senior members of the team aware of all aspects of the job through regular internal touch points

o Deliver on time and within approved budget

o Ensure clear communication and specifications when final approved design is relayed to suppliers

o Bring innovative design solutions that meet or exceed Perennial quality and brand standards

 

Tools of the Trade and Key Competencies

The candidate will be proficient in a broad range of software applications, some of which may include:

o Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign

o SketchUp

o AutoCad

o ADT or Revit

o ArchiCad

o 3D Studio (considered an asset)

• The individual must be exceptionally organized with the ability to prioritize work load according to deadline as well as client sensitivity. Have working knowledge and the specialization to be a keen and thoughtful decision maker taking into account design, budget and client solutions. In addition, must be able to manage many jobs and responsibilities at a time, while maintaining a positive and team-oriented attitude.

• The candidate will clearly demonstrate their ability to effectively work with internal resources to ensure common understanding, direction and priority. This individual will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to maintain a positive relationship with the internal studio and 3rd party suppliers through positive and sound business judgment.

 

Education and Experience

The candidate will have a degree or formal education in interior design, industrial design or architecture with 6 to 8 years of related experience, ideally in an active design/agency environment.
